The journey of the healthcare startup Nova continues, marking periods of significant growth and achievement. Born as on of the concepts developed during Hack54 and showcased at the Tech in Ghana (Royal Edition), Nova has rapidly evolved from a hackathon MVP to becoming a revolution for healthcare delivery across Africa.
This momentum culminated in a stellar performance at the maiden Ghana edition of the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL) Hackathon 2026.
Held at the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Headquarters in Pantang, Accra, the competition challenged young innovators, students, and health professionals to build sustainable health solutions while leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Competing against a talented pool of participants—including teams from the Wisconsin International University College and the Pantang Nurses and Midwifery Training College—Team Nova HQ secured 1st place, taking home the top prize.
Paving the Path Forward
Following their win, Nova gets to represent Ghana at the international level of the global Harvard HSIL Hackathon, competing alongside world-class innovators from across the globe.
The awards ceremony, graced by Ghana Health Service Director-General Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea and Head of Legal Mr. Zanu Dassah Esq., underscored the critical role of technology in strengthening health systems. To ensure these innovations reach their full potential, Dr. Akoriyea announced that the winning teams will be paired with technical units within the Ghana Health Service—including the Health Promotion Division (HPD), the NCD Programme, and the PPMED/DHIMS2 teams—to further support and develop their projects.
The event recognized the hard work and creativity of several standout teams. Looking back at the progress made over the last year.
As Nova prepares for the international stage, the team remains committed to the hard work required to transform the future of healthcare in Africa.
Onward and upward.
